GMG is Mobile!

January 21, 2009

Yes, we are mobile.

Actually, we have been mobile, but I’ve been too busy to post about it.

Here I am with Lou getting ready to record some guitar.

Facial hair is important when capturing massive guitar tone.

He wanted to do solo guitar renditions of some songs for church.

This is one of the configurations that worked well.

All we needed was some space, and his garage was perfect.

The garage provided a smooth and natural reverberation.

Lou felt very comfortable and recorded his tracks in one or two takes. I remember him telling me it was easier than he thought it would be.

Some clients prefer recording at home. No Problem, I can do it.

A Gift for his Wife

May 12, 2008

It’s been a busy month, but I was able to help a client record and complete a CD for his wife. He loves his wife so much he decided to record his vocals over some of their favorite songs.

He brought his favorite Karaoke CDs and we recorded. I was able to go online to get lyrics we didn’t have and he was well prepared so sessions went smoothly.

His wife is going to love the CD

Manley Dual Mono Mic Pre

January 3, 2008

manley duo

This unit is painstakingly hand wired using silver solder and audiophile-grade componentry by Manley Labs. Double shielded custom-built power transformers and custom-built high capacity reservoir capacitors are used for the power supply.

40 to 50 dBs of gain are selectable in precise 2.5dB steps by varying the amount of overall negative feedback on the GAIN switch. This is a very interesting feature indeed, allowing us to change the slew rate, placement, and tonal balance of the sound from mellow and “tubey-er” through to faster, punchier and more aggressive.

The front panel has a volume knob, phantom power switch, phase reverse switch, and a 1/4″ DIRECT INPUT for each pre, and the one gain switch for both pre-amps. Simple controls mean minimal circuitry and a clean sound.

It’s a great piece of equipment to work with.
